T.M. Hasbi Ash-Shiddieqy's Interpretative Thought: Epistemological Study of Tafsir Al-Bayan

Abstract

This study examines the exegesis of T.M. Hasbi Ash-Shiddieqy, focusing on the epistemology within his work, Tafsir Al-Bayan. Hasbi Ash-Shiddieqy, a prominent scholar from Indonesia, has made significant contributions to the tradition of Quranic exegesis by combining scientific methodology with local wisdom. This research falls under literature review using a qualitative approach. The methodology employed includes descriptive analysis, particularly in identifying the epistemological framework used by Hasbi Ash-Shiddieqy to interpret the sacred text, highlighting its application within the historical, social, and cultural contexts of Indonesia. The findings reveal that Tafsir Al-Bayan not only serves as an interpretative effort but also represents a deep and contextual exploration of the meanings within the Quran, framed by diverse epistemological perspectives. In conclusion, this study underscores the importance of an epistemological approach in understanding and applying the teachings of the Quran in contemporary contexts.
