Abstract

Mental health and character education are two interrelated dimensions that mutually reinforce one another in shaping the holistic personality of students. In reality, there exists a gap between the ideal of education that aspires to balance academic achievement with moral and spiritual values, and the current condition of young generations who are increasingly vulnerable to psychological pressure, value disorientation, and weakened self-control due to the uncontrolled use of digital media. This study aims to analyze Zakiah Daradjat’s thought on mental health and character education, as well as to examine its relevance and applicability in addressing educational challenges in the digital era. The research employs a library study with a descriptive-analytical approach, using Zakiah Daradjat’s works as primary sources and contemporary literature in psychology and Islamic education as secondary sources. The findings indicate that Zakiah Daradjat’s ideas possess strong conceptual and practical relevance within the context of modern education, as they emphasize the balance between academic potential, spiritual strength, and emotional stability as the foundation for character formation and students’ mental resilience. The spiritual and moral values she promotes can be operationalized as an educational paradigm that is responsive to social dynamics and the challenges of digital technology.
