Abstract

This thesis is entitled "Study of Maqashidi Tafsir: Analysis Study of the Verses of Ḥifẓ al-Nafs in the AlQur'an." The main focus of this research is analyzing the ḥifẓ al-nafs verses in the Koran through a maqāṣidī tafsir approach using the theory developed by Abdul Mustaqim. First, maqashidi tafsir is understood as a philosophy of interpretation which contains two main functions: 1) as the basis or spirit of interpretation of the Qur'an with the philosophical principles of al'ibrah bi al-maqāṣid, both within the framework of maqāṣid al-syarī'ah and maqāṣid al-Qur'an; 2) as a criticism of the stagnation of interpretation which is unable to answer the demands of the benefit of the people. Second, tafsir maqashidi as an interpretive methodology, where the interpretive process must be based on the principles of al-'ibrah bi al-maqāṣid and li taḥqīq al-maṣlaḥah wa dar' al-mafsadah. Third, maqashidi interpretation as a product of interpretation, namely the result of interpretation of the Qur'an which is oriented towards extracting maqāṣid values from each verse studied. The formulation of the problem in this research is how the ḥifẓ al-nafs verses in the Al-Qur'an are interpreted according to maqāṣidī interpretation, and how relevant they are in the context of the benefit of the human soul. This research is a type of library research, which is qualitative-descriptive in nature. The findings in this research show that the verses of ḥifẓ al-nafs not only contain the message of legal protection of life, but also contain universal values such as justice, humanity, social responsibility and overall safety of humanity. The maqāṣidī tafsir approach is a methodological offer that is able to integrate text and context proportionally for the benefit.
